FTMO Futures Rules: Drawdown, Daily Loss and the 40% Consistency Rule
FTMO is best known for its CFD and forex challenge, and most "FTMO rules" pages describe that one. FTMO Futures is a separate product with its own rules. This page covers only the futures Growth plan, quoted from FTMO's own rules page.
Source: Futures Trading Objectives & Rules and FTMO Futures, verified Oct 23, 2026. FTMO also sells a Pro futures plan with different numbers; check the rules page with the Pro filter if you buy that one. If anything here differs from FTMO's page, FTMO's page wins.

A trading day runs from 6:00 PM ET to 4:10 PM ET the next day. Passing is assessed after the end of the trading day, and the profit target counts only with all positions closed.
Maximum Drawdown: end-of-day trailing, on equity
At the start of each trading day FTMO sets the limit at your highest closing balance so far (or the initial capital, if higher) minus the drawdown amount. It only moves up and locks permanently once it reaches the initial capital. During the day, your equity, meaning balance plus open P&L minus commissions, must never touch it.
Worked example from FTMO's page ($50K)
- Day 1 limit: $50,000 − $2,000 = $48,000.
- Day 1 closes at $51,000, so the day 2 limit is $49,000.
- Day 2 closes lower at $50,500; the day 3 limit stays $49,000.
- Day 3 closes at $52,500. $52,500 − $2,000 = $50,500 would be above the initial capital, so the limit locks at $50,000 for good.
Decision: because commissions count against equity, a busy scalping day moves you toward the limit even when trades are flat. Count your fees into the room you have. To see your own days, use the prop firm drawdown calculator with end-of-day trailing and a lock at your starting balance.
Daily Loss Limit: none in the Evaluation, soft on Sim-Funded
The Growth Evaluation has no daily loss limit. On the Sim-Funded account there is a soft limit, calculated each morning from that day's starting balance. If equity hits it, your positions close and trading stops for the day, but the account stays open. Unlike the drawdown, this limit moves down after a losing day.
Decision: without a daily limit in the Evaluation, nothing stops a revenge spiral except the overall drawdown. Set your own daily stop before you start.
The 40% consistency rule
To pass the Growth Evaluation, your best day may be at most 40% of total profit, counted on closed P&L at the end of each day. Going over is not a breach: you keep trading until the ratio is 40% or lower. FTMO's example: $2,000 on day 1 and $1,000 on day 2 is 66.7%, so with day 1 as your best day you need at least $5,000 total. The Sim-Funded account has no consistency rule.
Decision: with a $3,000 target and a 40% cap, the most a single day can usefully add is $1,200. Plan on at least three good days. Compare this with Topstep's 55% and Apex's 50% in our consistency rule guide.
How to keep these rules in your journal
In the MyTradeEdge journal you can add an FTMO account as a prop firm account with its daily loss limit, maximum drawdown and profit target. The built-in FTMO templates use values that do not match the futures Growth plan, so type in the numbers from the table above. The journal does not check the 40% consistency rule; the drawdown calculator does.
Frequently asked questions
Does FTMO offer futures?
Yes. FTMO Futures is a separate product from its CFD challenge, with Growth and Pro plans in 50K, 100K and 150K sizes. This guide covers the Growth plan; check FTMO's rules page for Pro.
What is the FTMO Futures maximum drawdown?
On the Growth plan it is an end-of-day trailing limit of $2,000, $3,500 or $5,000 for 50K, 100K and 150K accounts. Equity, including open positions and commissions, must never touch it. It locks once it reaches the initial capital.
Does FTMO Futures have a daily loss limit?
Not in the Growth Evaluation. On the Sim-Funded account there is a soft daily loss limit ($1,000 on 50K): hitting it closes your positions and stops trading for the day, but the account stays open.
How does the FTMO Futures consistency rule work?
In the Growth Evaluation, your best day may be at most 40% of total profit. Going over is not a breach; you keep trading until it falls to 40% or less. The Sim-Funded account has no consistency rule.
